Director - Security




Responsible for the effective and efficient management of security for a casino/resort facility operating 24hrs/day 365 days/yr. with the objective of observing, reporting, and executing activities related to compliance with Iowa Laws, Gaming Commission Rules, and corporate policies. Assure the integrity of gaming, the protection of corporate assets and employee/guest safety. Work closely with Department of Criminal Investigation personnel assigned to the property and where appropriate local law enforcement and health/safety agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides exceptional guest service to all guests while ensuring a maximum level of customer service is provided on a day to day basis by the department
  • Creates and updates the public safety plan and property emergency plans
  • Writes and revises department policies and procedures
  • Establishes and maintains departmental goals
  • Directs daily operations of the department
  • Ensures that policies and procedures, laws, gaming regulations, internal controls and SOPs are followed
  • Implements and updates policies and procedures for the security department
  • Interviews/selects new employees, to include supervisors and managers
  • Ensures that officers are properly trained, and provides for a culture of learning
  • Determines shift assignments on a fair basis
  • Oversees the SO II and SO III program
  • Oversees that employees are trained in 1st aid, CPR and AED
  • Serves as a mentor and advisor to the security management team
  • Determines progressive disciplinary actions, including termination, of department employees
  • Maintains accurate and thorough departmental records and reports
  • Accurately documents and maintains reports of incidents on property
  • Disseminates incident reports as needed to department directors
  • Conducts investigations as needed
  • Prepares the annual security budget and monitors the budget on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares capital purchase requests
  • Ensures that all security equipment is accounted for, maintained, and working properly
  • Responsible for the EM-R program
  • Responsible for the property radio system
  • Oversees the property key management system
  • Oversees sorting of US Mail
  • Maintains building door keys & locks, including design, installation, issuance, and recordkeeping
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with law enforcement, EMS, and regulatory bodies
  • Serves as an advisor on security and safety to other directors
  • Handles guest claims by investigating incidents, filing insurance claims as needed, and assisting our insurance company
  • Adheres to all laws, gaming regulations, internal controls and SOPs
  • Work varied shifts as needed
  • Participate in the Manager On Duty (MOD) program
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of prior security management experience, preferably in gaming environment
  • Must demonstrate outstanding leadership skills
  • Must be experienced in planning, organizing, staffing and directing a department
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products


Varies - Schedule to include Days, Evenings, Overnights, Weekends as needed to provide coverage
