Summary:

The Controller is responsible for leadership, direction and coordination of Accounting, Revenue Audit, Cage & Count and Purchasing functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides exceptional guest service to all customers both external and internal.
  • Ensures company accounting, cage and count, revenue audit and purchasing policies and procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles and are consistent with Iowa gaming laws, IRGC regulations and RCGR internal controls.
  • Establishes and ensures internal control procedures and structures to safeguard company assets.
  • Plans, directs and organizes accurate and timely reporting of forecasting and financial information.
  • Prepares and maintains property operating and capital budgets, both monthly and annual.
  • Coordinates and manages the month-end close process through financial statement preparation and analysis.
  • Reviews and approves financial transactions and reconciliations, and fluctuations in revenues, expenses and inventory to ensure integrity of the operation.
  • Reviews and approves AP check runs and transfer of funds.
  • Ensures compliance and timely payment of all gaming taxes and regulatory fees, sales & use tax, and other reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates and manages year-end audit and quarterly reviews, including work paper preparation.
  • Leads and directs Accounting function and staff.
  • Leads and directs Cage and Count function and staff.
  • Leads and directs the Revenue Audit function and staff.
  • Leads and directs Purchasing function and staff, ensuring orders are processed in accordance with management’s specific objectives.
  • Establishes and implements short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
  • Works with regulatory agencies to obtain appropriate permits and approvals required for the business.
  • Provides ad-hoc management reporting and participates in in ad-hoc finance projects as directed.
  • Responsible for developing team knowledge and abilities to create the strongest team possible.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related degree
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience of accounting department leadership.
  • Experience with and knowledge of applicable federal/state/local reporting requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals at all levels of organization.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel and accounting software.
  • Ability to solve problems and/or make recommendations for solving problems depending on the situation.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to lead by example.
